The larger cities in Hawaii are very similar to US mainland cities. You will find Wal-marts, Costcos, 7-11s, McDonalds… The cars you will see are the same ones driven on the mainland as well.

You will see a lot of american influenze in the larger cities as well, but at a slower more relaxed pace except for perhaps in parts of Honolulu. Honolulu is a major US city and has all the same cultural problems and advantages of every other major US city.
