Many travelers these days are choosing to stay in vacation rentals, and Maui has it’s share of Kihei, Kahului, and Lahaina vacation rentals, but for those looking for a pampering in paradise, a resort is the way to go.

One of the best resort areas in all of the Hawaiian Islands is Maui’s Wailea Resort just south of Kihei. The Grand Wailea has been listed among the top resorts in the world by numerous travel magazines including Conde Nast and Travel & Leisure.
The Grand Wailea is also known for its large, full-service day spa called Spa Grande which offers everything from massages to aromatherapy and has been rated as one of the world’s top spas.

Another luxury resort at Wailea is the Four Seasons Resort which provides a bit more serenity than the Grand Wailea, which can be quite busy during the peak season when excited children fill the pool area. The Spa at Four Seasons has also received awards from prominent travel magazines for its high quality.

The Fairmont Kea Lani at Wailea features an adults-only pool and a kid’s camp with lots of activities for children. The elegant hotel provides the finest in luxuries, and every room is a suite. The beach along these oceanfront resorts of Wailea is sheltered from the open ocean making it great for snorkeling and relaxing, while also providing some small waves that are fun for kids. The area also boasts the most high-end shopping on Maui at the Shops at Wailea retails shopping center.

One of Maui’s most popular fine resort areas is Kaanapali known for its golden sands, pristine water, and world-class luxury hotels and condominiums as well as vacation club resorts.

Located on Maui’s western shore, Kaanapali also has a paved beach walk with great restaurants and shopping. You can enjoy sailing, snorkeling, golf, tennis, or a beach side massage in the ultimate luxury of Kaanapali.

In Hawaii’s world of endless summer, there are hundreds of entertaining wonders to be enjoyed throughout its six beautiful islands – Kauai, Molokai, Oahu, Lanai, Maui, and Hawaii’s Big Island.

Whether by land, air or sea, Hawaii is one exhilarating activity after another with the opportunities for fun and excitement discovered island by island.

How about world-class golf, biking, hiking and horseback riding through balmy tropical landscapes? Soaring high above on a zipline adventure tour through a forested canopy over rivers and waterfalls, or even higher on helicopter tours over lush valleys, hidden waterfalls, and spectacular shorelines? Or taking to Hawaii’s warm Pacific waters to surf, snorkel, scuba, kayak, or para sail? For a more leisurely enjoyment, one can explore the depths of Hawaii’s marine life through undersea submarine tours, or sun and frolic aboard a cruise excursion.
And only in Hawaii can one explore an active volcano and watch the flow of lava up-close (but not too close!) and bear witness to earth’s creation of land.

For educational enrichment, Hawaii offers more than 80 museums showcasing its culture, history, and the arts. History buffs will be fascinated by the “bookend battleships” of World War II now located bow-to-bow in Pearl Harbor: the revered USS Arizona Memorial and the gigantic “Mighty Mo” (Battleship Missouri Memorial).

Those wanting to be pampered and indulged can enjoy state-of the-art spas, the highly touted Hawaii Regional Cuisine, and everything-under-the-sun shopping.

And rarely does a weekend pass by without a celebration of Hawaii’s multi-cultural heritage, Hawaiian music, or island-inspired sports event taking place.

In addition to activities that visitors can do on their own or book through a qualified member of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB), there are hundreds of fun and interesting things to see and do on HVCB’s Calendar of Events – with the list growing all the time. Check it out online at GoHawaii.com.

How best to describe the Hawaii vacation experience? Jay Talwar, HVCB’s vice president of marketing, sums it up perfectly: “There is plenty of time to do absolutely nothing … on your plane ride home!”
